One deck of 52 cards, hundreds of games. Here are nine that work well in a browser, from a five-minute solitaire to a full evening of Hearts.
Pick by what you want from the next ten minutes
- Quiet and solo: Klondike Solitaire, FreeCell or Spider Solitaire. No opponents, no time pressure.
- A proper game against the computer: Hearts, Spades or Gin Rummy. These reward planning and memory.
- Quick and casual: Crazy Eights. Match a card, shout the suit, race to empty your hand.
- For kids, or for no thinking at all: Go Fish and War.
The four families of card game
Solitaire games you play alone, building or sorting cards into order. Trick-taking games such as Hearts and Spades have players each play a card per round, and the highest card of the suit wins the trick. Rummy games, Gin Rummy among them, are about collecting sets and runs. Shedding games like Crazy Eights are a race to get rid of your cards first. Once you know which family a game belongs to, you know the shape of the strategy.
What every game here has in common
- A standard 52-card deck, drawn from scratch with our own card design.

If you only try one
Start with Hearts if you like a challenge, or Klondike if you want something relaxing. Both are easy to learn in one hand and take years to master.
All nine card games
The solitaire everyone knows. Build four piles from ace to king.
Almost every deal can be won. Plan your moves before you make them.
Build full runs from king to ace and clear the table.
Dodge the hearts and the queen of spades. Or shoot the moon.
Bid your tricks, keep your partner alive and beat the bags.
Match your cards into sets and runs, then knock before the computer does.
Match the suit or the rank. Eights are wild. First to empty their hand wins.
Ask for a card, collect the books, and remember who has what.
The simplest card game there is. Flip, compare and hope.
